ABOUT
ABOUT:
Established in 1986 alongside the inception of the college, the Department of English has been committed to strengthening the linguistic and communicative foundations of learners from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Conceived with the vision of supporting first-generation learners and working students, the department plays a pivotal enabling role in enhancing employability, personality development, and social confidence.
Over the years, the department has evolved from a conventional language teaching unit into a dynamic academic space focusing on communication, personality development, media awareness, and literary appreciation. Recognizing that a majority of students come from vernacular-medium backgrounds, the department adopts inclusive pedagogical approaches such as code-mixing, code-switching, peer learning, experiential activities, and skill-based training modules to ensure conceptual clarity and practical application.
The department offers Ability Enhancement and Open Elective Courses such as Business Communication Skills, Communication Skills in English, Science and Fantasy Fiction, and Film Appreciation. These courses are carefully designed to integrate language proficiency with critical thinking, creativity, and workplace readiness.
Aligned with the broader mission of the college to uplift socially and economically underprivileged communities in Mumbai’s central suburbs, the Department of English functions as a transformative platform. It nurtures self-confidence, articulation skills, ethical awareness, and global outlook among students, enabling them to transition successfully into professional environments and responsible citizenship.
The department’s distinct strength lies in its learner-centric methodology, practical orientation, and unwavering commitment to bridging linguistic divides in higher education.
