About The Department

Biotechnology is a front-line area of science with immense potential for the benefit of the human kind. It is an interdisciplinary science which encompasses areas viz. Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, Plant and Animal tissue culture, Chemistry and Engineering. It is a fast emerging “cutting edge” science with distinctive advantages as it finds applications in practically all aspects of life. The subject offers exciting opportunities in various fields from basic research to an industry oriented career. 

Keeping in view expense and applications of biotechnology in every field there is going to be a perpetual demand for resource personnel with biotechnology as specialization. Our undergraduate and postgraduate program is aimed to cater this ever increasing demand and to groom students to excel in their future career. 

The Department made a modest beginning in 2002 with the commencement of B.Sc. (Biotechnology) course and the M.Sc. Biotechnology course commenced from 2009.

 The Department of Biotechnology at Vikas College established in the year 2002. It spread its wings by enrolling postgraduate students in the year 2009. 

The Department has well equipped laboratories with latest equipment's/instruments. The Department has a total three laboratories with sub-sections Molecular Biology, Plant Tissue Culture, Animal tissue culture, and Bioinformatics Laboratory (Computer Laboratory with internet facility). The Department also has a Departmental library where reputed International and National editions of Books and Journals are made available to the students and faculty. 

The admissions of students are merit based at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The non- mathematics students will attend a skill enhancement training as Bridge course in Elementary Mathematics and statistics. Interested undergraduate, post-graduate students as well as faculty undertake research projects as part of their curricular and co-curricular activities.

The department strives to create an academic environment that would match the best Biotechnology Institutes in the world. The curriculum aims to provide a platform for biotechnology students and enables them to prepare for lifelong learning, by nurturing independent thinking, initiating scientific inquiry and developing their entrepreneurship skills thereby enhancing their employability. The subject topics widely cover the current developments in the scientific arena. Students are trained to be proficient by providing them a vibrant environment which encourages research and innovations in biotechnology for their universal development The Department of Biotechnology organizes events such as BIOFROLIC to provide a platform to showcase student’s talent in academic, extracurricular and co-curricular area and for the overall development of students.
